Lise El Sayed was born in 1980 in France. After completing training in visual arts, she studied textile design at La Cambre National School of Visual Art in Brussels. Her work focuses on how textiles, materials and structures influence the use and identity of day-to-day objects. There is a story behind each piece, that involves materials, memories, use and users. Both craft-related and industrial processes are employed, sometimes successively, on the same object. The object becomes hybrid: a carpet is transformed into a shoe, a small spoon becomes a pocket mirror.Manipulating the genes of objects gives birth to new species that refuse to bepigeonholed.
